Eat Me | Where to get the best soft-shell crab
Oh the poor but very delicious soft-shell blue crab! Not only is the soft-shell defenceless, with its limp claws and squishy carapace, but it’s also irresistibly easy to eat; requiring nothing more than a quick cleaning of a few inedible parts to prepare it for cooking and eating whole. Delicious.
Here is where we suggest that you try it…
Soft-shell crab with a green chilli and ginger sauce. This dip has a real kick to it and a punch of colour.
They have a quieter outreach in Bermondsey which we love.
New to Dalston, Psychic Burger serves our favourite soft-shell crab burger – two deep fried crabs crammed into a bun, it’s definitely worth venturing east for. You haven’t truly experienced soft-shell crab until you’ve had it in a burger!
Hutong at The Shard
Crab and a view! This place has both. We love a little drama at the table, so would rave about their Red Lantern: soft-shell crabs fried and served in a lantern stuffed with chillies. Beware though they have bite!
If you can get a table, we love the deep fried soft-shell crab, served with corn spring rolls and a peanut and apple salad. It is a refreshing twist that will definitely have you ordering another plate!
Ok so it’s not quite soft-shell, but heck it will be when you have finished. Take a hammer to your crab at this homage to great fish. The dish is completed with flame-grilled brown meat which leaves you simply scuttling around for more. It’s no surprise that Exmouth Market is harbouring a great eatery, but by golly this one is worth a little walk for.
