Digby Fine English sparkling wine
With summer officially here and Wimbledon starting what better time is there to enjoy a bottle of bubbles? Prosecco may still be the most popular choice but English sparkling wine is really starting to make its mark. In 2017 British wine makers produced 3.86million bottles of wine to sell, which is a 64 percent increase on 2016. This massive increase is a result of huge investment and more vines being planted over the last ten years. English sparkling wine in particular, made using the same techniques as Champagne, is gathering attention. The soil and climate of vineyards in the South of England are said to be similar to those in France’s famous Champagne region.
As an event caterer we are always looking to offer our clients something new and up-and-coming. We have therefore added Digby Fine English sparkling wine to our list and it is becoming increasingly popular with our clients.
Digby Fine English sparkling wine is described as “a superlative, elegant, spirited expression of Englishness – with all its follies and foibles, modesty and refinement, its courage and its curiosity…
Inspired by the extraordinary life of the 17th Century philosopher, theologian, writer, pirate, inventor and ‘father of the modern wine bottle’, Sir Kenelm Digby, ‘Digby Fine English’ is a wine of distinctively English character”.
